Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Expansion

With all the growth in Austin, it is no wonder that the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has recently announced more plans to continue on with expansions of the airport that services the Austin and surrounding area.

Currently the expansion of the Austin airport will facilitate 15 million passengers a year, much more then the 11 million passengers a year from prior years. This new $350 million dollar terminal is entering its final stage of construction and includes an addition of nine gates to the Barbara Jordan Terminal.  This 175,000 square-foot terminal is expected to open in the spring.

The Airport 2040 Master Plan informs us all that there are more plans for the future, including a new southern terminal.  The Airport Master Plan also outlines many more perks for the Austin-Bergstrom International Aiport, including:  32 new gates, more parking, upgraded baggage handling and more.

The plans of the expansion will play a critical roll in the city of Austin being able to accommodate large event such as South by Southwest or event the Formula One U.S. Grand Prix.
