Austin Police Department to Fill Large Vacancy
The Austin Police Department is currently trying to find recruits to fill 145 positions. They have 59 cadets who will be starting training next month, but are looking for many more people to start with the following academy class in November. Some of the basic requirements to apply have been lowered, and the APD is hoping this will help increase the number of interested applicants.
The job comes with a good paycheck. By year two, Austin Police officers make more than $71,000. "We have one of the top salaries in the state," Officer Eric Cortez, with the APD Recruitment Unit, said.
