Some of the best public high schools can be found right here in Austin, Texas.  According to Business Insider, the high schools listed below make the list of achievers in the "Best Public High Schools in America".  Rankings were based on data collected by Niche, who considered factors such as: assessment proficiency, performance on the SAT/ACT and parent academic survey responses.

Below is a list of the top Public High Schools in Austin, along with their ranking on the list of 1 – 50:

 

41. Westlake High School

Westlake High School is a comprehensive, four-year public high school where the curriculum is primarily college preparatory. The school’s average total enrollment, grades 9-12, is 2,573. Westlake consistently receives recognition at all levels, including its rank among the 100 best high schools in the country by Newsweek and US News magazines. The school consistently exceeds both regional and state standardized test score averages in all categories.

Westlake students excel academically, as well as in music, arts and athletics. WHS consistently boasts impressive numbers in the National Merit competition and Presidential Scholars program. Traditionally, about 99 percent of students are accepted directly to college. On average, more than $20 million in scholarships is offered to WHS grads annually.

Westlake High School offers a full slate of Advanced Placement courses, a Career and Technical Education program, an acclaimed Performing Arts department, as well as special support programs such as the TLC (The Learning Center) and Adult Transition Services (formerly 19+ program).

 

11. Liberal Arts & Science Academy (LASA)

The Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) High School is a four-year comprehensive, public, urban, advanced academic magnet high school of 1,191 students.  The class of 2018 is comprised of 260 students.  The program recruits the most academically advanced students from public and private schools in Austin; as such admission to LASA is competitive, based on test scores, previous accomplishments and teacher recommendations.

The curricular expectations of LASA students exceed that of a traditional curricular program.  The curriculum for every course is written to go above and beyond state and district standards.  LASA courses move at a quicker pace, cover more material, are project-based and rely heavily on discussion and seminar style delivery of course information.
