Best Tubing Trips Near Austin

Looking to beat the Central Texas heat? Spend the day floating down the river, with friends close by and a cold drink in hand. Tubing is a perfect summertime outing for friends, family, and coworkers who are looking to get out of the city and enjoy a relaxing day on the water. To keep everyone together and stress-free, organize a charter bus trip to your favorite tubing destination near Austin.

Some of the best tubing spots in Texas are a short bus ride from Austin. Because most charter buses allow alcoholic beverages on board, you can get the party started before your driver drops you off at the river of your choice.

Don’t have a favorite yet? Take a look at our top picks below!

San Marcos River

San Marcos River Austin

San Marcos River, a flat and wide stretch of water, is one of the most accessible tubing spots near Austin. After a short 35-mile bus ride from the city’s center, your group can enjoy a three-hour float down the river.

Be sure to plan your trip around Float Fest, a two-day music festival in July where you can listen to some of today’s top artists while you tube, drink, and hang out with friends. Coordinate your drop off with your charter bus driver ahead of time so you can enjoy the festival while they handle parking!

Guadalupe River

If a party atmosphere is more your style, you have to check out Guadalupe River. Make the 50-mile journey from Austin to the Horseshoe, one of the most popular access points, and float down river for about one to two hours (depending on the water levels). When you’re done, your driver can take you to Guadalupe Brewing Company to try their Chocolate Stout and Texas Honey Ale.

Comal River

Though it’s the shortest river in the country, Comal River provides tubers with a three-hour tour of New Braunfels. Because it flows through the city, you’ll have access to great nearby attractions, like Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort in New Braunfels and New Braunfels Brewing Co.

Medina River

Medina River

Medina River is further out than other tubing destinations, but it’s a relaxing and scenic alternative if you want to avoid some of the more crowded tubing towns. It’s about a 120-mile bus ride from Austin, but your group will have fun along the way with TV monitors, DVD players, WiFi, and other entertainment amenities on board. Once you’re done tubing for the day, visit Bandera Ale Project after tubing for a delicious glass of their Tiramisu-Cappuccino Honey Brown ale.

Frio River

Frio River

True to its Spanish name, the Frio River is a cold, refreshing spot for tubing on a hot Texas day. Because it’s a 140-mile bus ride from Austin, you won’t find as many visitors here as you would at Comal, San Marcos, or Guadalupe. Float down the river with friends and family during the day, and meet up at Joe Jimmy’s at night for dancing, karaoke, and games.

The only downside to tubing on a weekend is the long shuttle lines, especially during holidays or events. With your own private bus rental, you’ll not only have a dedicated ride to the river, but you’ll have a prompt and safe ride at the river’s exit point.
