Check out the wineries located close to Austin, in the Hill Country region.
The State of Texas is home to many "Best of the Best", but did you know that the Lone Star State also full of some of the best wineries? Not only that, but may are located very near to Austin right in the heart of the Hill Country area.
Thanks to Conrad and Drew, self-professed wine aficionados, we are able to share with you this list of the "Best Wineries in Texas".
Wineries to look out for in the great State of Texas:
This winery is located in Hye, Texas and is a family owned vineyard. Taste their wines in their winetasting bar, built from the properties original farmhouse structure with sweeping views. Enjoy their Barrel Tastings and get a tour of their winemaking facility!
Conrad and Drew's Review: Mourvedre specialist and one of their favorite Texas producers – these wines are so good, 50% of the entire year’s stock sells out in the first week of release!
Calais Winery offers two experiences when it comes to tasting their vino. They have a self-constructed underground space that holds their winery, cellar and tasting room. Stop by and pick from their experiences: "Tasting in the Cave" or "Winemaker's Table".
Conrad and Drew's Review: Cabernet specialists. One of their top 3 wineries, and their Cabernets are stellar, every bit as good as Napa, but with its own Texas stamp of flavor.
A Texas Hill Country Favorite, Lewis Wines produces all their wine from 100% Texas grapes, you can't go wrong with that! They are the largest viticultural area in Texas and the second largest in the United States.
Conrad and Drew's Review: The other top three. Doug is only 30 years old but is already turning Texas on its head with his business partner, Duncan McNabb. Check out their Spanish, Portuguese and Rhone variety wines.
Pedernales Cellars has been producing wine in their family for over six generations. Located in Stonewall, Texas deep in the hill country, you can find a large selection of Rose, White, Reds and Dessert Wines. An easy drive from both Austin or San Antonio.
Conrad and Drew's Review: Delicious Spanish varieties of Albarino and Tempranillo
Becker Vineyard is very unique. Not only do they have an award winning wine selection, but also grow a field of lavender. Join them at their yearly Annual Backer Vineyards Lavender Festival. Spend some time on the estate at Becker Vineyards, which is a total of 46 acres.
Conrad and Drew's Review: Great value Rhone variety wines of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre delivering great flavor.
You cannot visit Spicewood, Texas without taking a quick trip to the Spicewood Vineyard. The Spicewood Vineyard only produces with wines with estate-grown grapes. Spicewood Vineyards takes a lot of pride in the wide selection and unique variety of grapes they grow.
Conrad and Drew's Review: You’ve gotta check out the Good Guy blend – a heady mix of Tempranillo, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. 100% Texas and top shelf stuff.
Duchman Family Winery, located in Driftwood, Texas, has a lot of pride in producing 100% Texas Wines with 100% Texas grapes. Duchman Family Winery has also been touted as one of the top wine destinations in Texas.
Conrad and Drew's Review: Check out their super delicious reds – Aglianico and Montepulciano
Fall Creek Vineyards is the only Texas Winery to receive a BEST BUY in the Wines Spectator, and also have received the inaugural TOP TEXAS WINERY award from the Houston Rodeo International Competition and Texas Agriculture Commission.
Conrad and Drew's Review: Gave birth to the modern Texas winemaking movement in the 1970s. They have a very sexy Grenache Syrah Mourvedre blend. They’re also just down the road from the world famous Salt Lick BBQ. This is arguably the best place in all of Texas to eat BBQ, and it needs to be on your bucket list before you die!!
