Google just signed a lease to occupy a 35-story office building located in the downtown Austin area which will be starting construction very soon.  Currently Google has about 800 employees in the Austin Texas area.  The building is estimated to house roughly 5000 people in about 790000 square-feet of office space.  The building is scheduled for completion sometime in 2022.

Officials with the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce state that the deal that Google struck with this office building indicates a commitment to the Austin area from Google.  This is monumental for Austin because Google is currently one of the largest companies in the world.

According to the American Statesman Austin Area Chamber of Commerce representatives state “Google is a major player in our corporate community and an engaged community leader; we are pleased to see how they continue to grow.”

“The expansions of our existing businesses reinforces commitment to our community and continues to indicate we have a vibrant Austin Texas is certainly a leader in the tech industry in Texas and is clearly pushing to be one of the most expansive tech-hubs in the United States with key players such as Google deciding to make Austin a new major location to conduct business” says Charisse Bodisch senior vice president of economic development.

Major businesses and tech companies such as Google choosing to make way for their business in the Austin area prove that Austin is not only the tech capital of Texas but in the running to dominate the United States in business and economics when it comes to the IT industry.
