Lake Travis near Austin Texas is a sixty-five-mile long man-made lake formed by the damming of the Colorado River in the late 1930’s.  The lake is a favorite recreation spot for local residents and for visitors.

Multiple communities have formed around the lake including Lakeway Volente Briarcliff and Hudson Bend to name a few.

The small planned community of Lakeway Texas sits on the southern shore of Lake Travis. Here you’ll find the Lakeway Airpark a privately owned airport that is open for public use to residents and guests to the area.

The Village of Briarcliff is also on the southern shore of the lake offering a 9-hole golf course – the Willie Nelson’s Cut ‘N Putt.

The tiny village of Volente sits on the lake’s northern shore. Shore Club Volente Beach and the Volente Boat Club are located there. Shore Club Volente Beach offers a sandy beach with volleyball and other fun activities along with a water park and an upscale restaurant.

If you enjoy boating but don’t want the hassle and expense of owning a boat you can join the Volente Boat Club.  For an annual membership fee you get private access to one of 25 boats.  You can even share a membership with a friend. If you are new to boating an experienced staff member will go out on the water with you and give you individual instruction on handling your chosen watercraft. Boating safety classes are also offered.

The VIP Marina on Lake Travis offers many perks to its tenants including a state-of-the-art surveillance system to monitor your vessel and free help to load and upload packages on your boat.  The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.  The marina boasts the best gas deals on the lake.

The unique Oasis Restaurant sits on a cliff 450 feet above Lake Travis.  Guests can view the sunset from the restaurant’s patios. The Oasis bills itself as the “Sunset Capital of Texas”.  Guests can enjoy a varied menu featuring seafood and Tex-Mex specialties.  Seating is on a first come first serve basis; the restaurant does not take reservations.

Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis is a public clothing optional (nudist) park.  Guests can enjoy picnicking hiking sunbathing and swimming but should be aware that no lifeguards are on duty.  Guests are advised to wear protective footwear and bring sunscreen and plenty of bottled water.  No glass is allowed in the park and alcoholic beverages should not be publicly displayed.  Pets are not allowed in the park and they should never be left in parked vehicles.

With so many things to do and experience it is little wonder that Lake Travis is a popular vacation destination.
